Individual and group drum kit tuition at Coda Music Centre is provided from the age of 6 years upwards. After the initial steps of co-ordination, style and technique, the student will progress quickly through basic rock shuffle grooves, associated fill-ins and variations on the hi-hat patterns. Students will learn to read drum music. The Drumsense Teaching Project provides many play-along tracks that develop an awareness of different musical styles and allow improvisation around the drum kit for a beginner or accomplished player. As the student progresses Jazz, Latin and Funk styles are introduced.
Social music making and performance opportunities are greatly valued at Coda. Tuition is offered in small groups and there are regular Children’s African Drumming group and Samba workshops. Drum Kit students will be able to take Rock School exams at Coda Music Centre.
