In keeping with the general approach at CODA, the Piano Sector seeks to offer an enjoyable and person centred experience of the piano. This may be through group or individual tuition, may use our internal assessment scheme or external Trinity Guildhall exams and uses repertoire from a broad range of styles.
Teaching methods will be chosen according to the learning strengths of pupils rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach. For example, those with strong aural and creative abilities will be encouraged to develop these through the use of improvisation and memorisation. Others may be better suited to working mainly through notation. In all cases tutors are keen to develop all round musicality rather than purely achieving grades or technical facility.
Individual lessons
Individual tuition enables the tutor and pupil to work as they wish using their own preferred repertoire. You are never too old to learn! Many of our pupils here have taken up piano in retirement….!
Group Lessons: The Piano Club
The Piano Club comprises of a range of courses designed for adults, with or without previous musical training, to play and read music comfortably at the piano. Beginners or Improvers develop technical and musical abilities within a relaxed and informal environment.
