In recent years Coda has been developing an innovative programme of music for health and well being alongside our long-standing music therapy service, from drumming circles and choirs to music technology and one to one instrumental tuition for children and adults.
We specialise in working with people with disability or illness and our broad programme of music activities exists to support the health and well being of participants, their families and carers.
Alongside regular opportunities to take instrumental lessons at Coda with experienced and specialist tutors, we run a touring programme of music workshops for older people in residential care homes and adults with disabilities in day care centres plus a number of other specific projects.
Right now this includes Start the Week with a Song - a vocal exercise group for people experiencing problems with their voice as a result of illness or stroke. These sessions take place every Monday from 10.30am at Coda and cost £3 per session. They focus on using therapeutic techniques and exercises, alongside communal singing to maintain and improve the voice. Start the Week with a Song is particularly beneficial to people with Parkinson's or those recovering from stroke. We welcome partners and carers and always find time to catch up and share our thoughts over a cup of tea during the session!
We also run The Beautiful Sound, weekly music workshops for adults with learning difficulties on a Thursday at 11.30am, and a teenage version on a Saturday (at The Phoenix Centre in New Milton).
These sessions, run by music leader Stuart Jebbitt are a fun and sociable opportunity to play a range of instruments, sing, write and record songs. Each session incorporates simple musical games and songs to encourage participation and includes plenty of opportunity to play and sing along with your favourite pop and rock songs, from Abba and Adele to Queen and Elvis. We have a range of instruments on hand and often set up a mini recording studio to capture the songs we write.
Songs like T-shirt, recorded last year by the group.
